The death of a pet is an incredibly difficult time in its owner's life, full of many beautiful memories as well as some "what ifs" and "if onlys." One of two beautiful cats belonging to a couple from England died suddenly, leaving the family reeling in shock and grief — but a surprise note from a neighbor provided unexpected comfort in this dark time.
Bear and Teddy, owned by Reddit user TravUK, were inseparable best friends. These two cats lived the life, pampered and spoiled at home, and caused mischief whenever they were outside. Then, without warning, Bear passed away. The British couple was stunned, and Teddy was left without his partner in crime.
Two weeks after Bear's death, as the couple still mourned the loss of their big, lovable cat, they found a note attached to Teddy's collar when he came home one afternoon. To their surprise, someone else was missing Bear, too.
"Dear Owner; I'm your neighbour, living in 4. I'm also your cats' close friends as they (2 cats) are used to coming to my room everyday. But one of them, a bigger one has disappeared for two weeks. Is he OK? I'm so worried about him. He is so lovely cat and always touched my heart. Wish he is fine. — Y.T. 2/March/2017"
TravUK shared that the couple sent a note back to the person, explaining Bear's absence: "We posted a letter back into number 4, saying that our other cat had passed away. We also included our email address."
Shortly afterward, they received a friendly email from the neighbor explaining how much Bear and Teddy meant to her. She is a Taiwanese exchange student at a nearby university, and she loved spending time with the cats — especially Bear, who always seemed to sense when she needed some extra love and comfort.
TravUK was particularly moved by the woman's admission that she practiced her school presentations using Bear as her audience. TravUK shared the woman's sentiments: "He [Bear] would sit on her bed and listen...She didn't have anyone else to practice with. Very touching...She even attached some pictures they had taken of my boys which warmed my heart."
The neighbor has visited Bear's grave in TravUK's garden and brought flowers to show her love and appreciation for this giant-hearted cat. TravUK said about Bear, "Makes you proud that he could brighten up more than just my household's lives."
What an incredible cat to make such an impact on the lives around him! Share this very touching story about Bear with your family and friends on Facebook.
